Story

The story of the Second Life Community Convention begins with a group of inspired Second Life residents who wished to create a real life gathering of friends in one location. The concept of a large Second Life event was inspired during a “Real Life invasion of Linden Lab” in late July 2005 by Second Life residents. Initially thought of as a social gathering as a part of the State of Play III convention, the idea morphed into a convention that discussed the many aspects of emerging virtual worlds, namely Second Life. With an idea in head, the founding resident organization group was:  SNOOPYbrown Zamboni (Jerry Paffendorf), FlipperPA Peregrine (Timothy Allen), Jennyfur Peregrine (Jennifer Vatza), Valadeza Anubis (Laura van Hook) and Hiro Pendragon (Ron Blechner).

Throughout the next month a flurry of activity began to sprout as interest and anticipation in the event began to flourish. Through a hectic process, and two month of planning time, the organizing group had plenty of work ahead of them. It was during this process the event obtain it’s name. While some names were being discussed, the Second Life Community Convention was decided upon due to the conventions nature; it aimed to provide an opportunity for the community to develop, discuss and interact with one another in a real world space.

Since its inception, The SLCC has been a volunteer run organization. The organizers and volunteers donate their time, expertise, skills and love of Second Life towards making a gathering of this size possible.
