Bri Gufler (Brian K. Perry in RL) is organizing several panels to discuss how Second Life can be/has been utilized in the healthcare industry. He the President and CEO of BKP Technologies, Inc. and is a principal at The Rezory virtual worlds healthcare incubator. He was the former President and CEO of Versal Technologies, Inc. of Boston, MA where he grew the company for several years delivering IT solutions to major pharmaceutical clients around the world. Prior to starting Versal in 1995, Brian was the Director of Information Systems at Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated of Cambridge, MA. He was also a Systems Engineer with IBM Corporation. He has been an avid user and developer utilizing virtual world technologies for several years.
The panels will be talking about the current uses of Second Life for healthcare/life sciences and any clinical studies within Second Life. In addition, there will be discussions regarding the benefits and challenges of using SL for studies and patient outreach initiatives – including software validation issues, FDA advertising/marketing issues, etc.
I hope this includes a discussion of actually promoting exercise rather than just use for pharmaceutical clients. SL Triathlon is a great example of people sweating pixels together to get healthier.
