Manx Wharton Presents: SL, The Great Poetry Equalizer

Manx Wharton is an awarded SL activist across visual art, design, music, and literary circles. His work explores and blurs the lines between RL and SL, co-opting elements of each to enhance the other. Manx is one of the most widely noted poets on the Grid, featured in publications including Virtruvius and Blue Angel Landing anthologies. He is First Prize winner of The Learning Experience Memorial Day Juried Prize for Poetry, and reads regularly at open mic and invitational events on the grid. He is also an active and innovative original cross-genre live music artist in SL and a featured finale performer at SL6B for 2009. Manx is also a popular live(ly) interview guest for streaming broadcasts and podcasts, including guest appearances on Gaming Uncensored and Off the Shelf, as well as upcoming appearances on indie-spectrum internet radio.

This workshop will explore some of the advantages of Second Life as a nearly ideal platform for offsetting the traditional challenges that poets face in developing and distributing their craft and demolishes barricades for new, emergent, and establishing writers. It will also feature readings by some of SL’s best poets, involvement from some of the most successful reading organizers on the Grid, and direct work with those interested in the mechanics of successful readings and workshops.

I am excited to see a workshop that explores the creative contribution of all writers in Second Life. I think that the unbiased support of all writers using Second Life as a platform to publishing, is a wonderful thing.

Certainly Mr. Wharton’s positive message about the values and accomplishments of the Second Life literary community is a welcome one, in the face of all the negative press that SL receives. We should have more “creative champions” like him.

I look forward to attending this workshop in person! I was hoping that one would be developed for the Convention. He is an excellent spokesperson, and cannot wait to hear him in person!
