SLCC Volunteers are convention attendees who are very committed to making the Second Life Community Convention a true community experience while helping to ensure our convention runs smoothly. Volunteers help with the many important aspects of the convention including registration assistance, helping direct convention flow and attendees, assisting in track and content management, along with many of the “on the ground” logistical items necessary for the convention. They are an incredible assemblage of dedication and community spirit who come back each year ready to serve our Community Convention.
The goal of volunteers is to assist in the fluid running of the SLCC from the moment attendees register until the time they leave the hotel at the end of the convention. Their selfless dedication brings to every attendee’s First Life all the community spirit so prevalent in our Second Life.
Volunteer Behavior and Attitude
Volunteers have the opportunity to create an unforgettable first impression at the Second Life Community Convention. Their friendly welcome to first-timers, as well as our seasoned yearly attendees, sets the tone for the Convention. They do it with style and grace and for no further reward than the satisfaction of receiving a fellow SLer’s smile and thanks.
There are some guidelines that must be followed by members of the volunteer team. Volunteers will:
- Maintain politeness when faced with dissent.
- Be considerate and helpful to all that ask for assistance.
- Be respectful to those they help even if its not always returned.
- Work as a team and help each other as they help others.
- Be reliable, committed and trustworthy.
- Contribute their observations & ideas to better future conventions.
- Keep a sense of humor thus promoting good spirits.
- Keep this labor of love, fun.
Volunteer Duties
The duties of the SLCC volunteers revolve around assisting in much of the “on the ground” operation of the convention. Some of the major duties may include:
- Volunteer 2 hours minimum per day for each day of the convention but no less than 2 days.
- Assisting in the preparation of convention gifts and materials prior to the start of the convention.
- Registration assistance and management.
- Greeting and flow assistance to point attendees in the proper direction of key convention locations, such as registration desks, track rooms and exhibition tables.
- Convention track assistance, such as room greeting and communicating with the track leader.
- Possibly local assistance in finding locations or assisting in small tasks with a TFU organizer or Board Member.
- In the event of an emergency, volunteers are required to immediately alert the proper authorities, Hotel Security or a TFU Board Member.
Specific roles and tasks would be assigned to each volunteer before the convention by a volunteer organizer. At that point you would also be provided a contact list of TFU member information (ie: cell numbers, room information, etc.) along with your schedule at the convention.
Volunteer Perks
The SLCC volunteers are a very valued and essential part of the Second Life Community Convention. Without their assistance the convention would not be able to operate in an effective manner. For their work at the convention, volunteers receive a reduced or complementary convention registration fee.
Failure to fulfill the volunteer obligation will null and void any and all agreements associated with your commitment to the Second Life Community Convention.
